Ans : Introduction : The story ‘Pen Pal’ has been written by G. Srinivas Rao. This story has many qualities of a good short story. We like this story for the following
reasons:
- The title of the story : The title ‘Pen Pal’ is attractive and exciting.We feel attachment with it. We want to know what it is about. The beginning of the story is very suggestive. We come to know the experiences of the author about his pen pal. The author begins the story in a simple and to the point manner. The end of the story is very remarkable and beautiful. The complete story is full of suspense and Surprise. The end of the story is unexpected. .
- The theme of the story: Although the theme of the story is simple but its presentation is attractive. The story is short. There are not many incidents. There dre only three characters in the story. The third character comes only for a short i while. The whole story revolves round the author and his pen pal. The beginning and the end of the story is Interesting and full of suspense.
- The language of the story: The language of the story is simple and effective The charm of the story is hidden in its phrases ‘Facing the enemy’s bullet’. in Seventh Heaven’ and ‘lone bird’ are very ambiguous phrases. These phrases hide some secret in their meanings. The expression is lucid.
- The aim of the story: The main aim of the story is that pity and thought fulness bring joy to all in life. We should not be meanminded. Age is no bar in the life. We should always try to make others happy even hiding our age. The author has depicred such a character in his story that makes others happy.

कहानी का आरम्भ और अन्त दिलचस्प और रहस्य से भरा है। - कहानी की भाषा-कहानी की भाषा प्रमावपूर्ण और साधारण है। कहानी का आकर्षण उसके शब्द । समुदाय में निहित है। शत्रु की गोली का सामना करना.’ ‘सातवें स्वर्ग में’ और ‘बिना साथी के आदि शब्द समुवाय गूढ अर्थ वाले है। ये शब्द समुदाय अपने अर्थ में एक रहस्य छुपाए हैं। प्रस्तुति सरल है। ।
4.कहानी का उद्देश्य-कहानी का मुख्य उद्देश्य है कि दया और विचारशीलता सभी के जीवन में । आनन्द भर देते हैं। हमें संकुचित विचार वाला नहीं होना चाहिए। जीवन में उम्र का बन्धन नहीं होता। अपनी उम्र छुपाकर भी हमें दूसरों के जीवन को आनन्द से भर देना चाहिए। लेखक ने कहानी में ऐसे ।

Thus, the end of the story reveals the secret of the game hide and seek.

- His pen pal: The author selected a girl from America. Her name was Alice. H. He began to write letters to his pen pal.
- Her response: Alice also wrote a letter in return. But she was very careful in correspondence. She knew that she was an old lady and her pen pal was a young college boy.

प्रस्तावना-‘Pen Pal’ कहानी लेखक के जीवन की एक सत्य घटना है। यहाँ लेखक ने इस बात का वर्णन किया है कि घटना से सम्बन्धित विचार उसके मस्तिष्क में फैसे आया।
पत्र-मित्र बनाने का इच्छुक-लेखक 21 वर्ष का कालेज का विद्यार्थी था। उसने अपनी कक्षा के लड़के लड़कियों को अपने पत्र-मित्रों से आये हुए हवाई पत्र तथा पार्सल प्राप्त करते हुए देखा। उन दिनों पत्र-मित्र बनाने का प्रचलन था। एक दिन प्रातः उसने बम्बई (मुम्बई) की लोकप्रिय पत्रिका के एक पृष्ठ को देखा, उस पर संसार के ऐसे पते छपे थे जो भारत में पत्र-मित्र बनाना चाहते थे। अतः लेखक ने भी संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के केलीफोर्निया में स्थित लॉस एन्जिलस की ऐलिस एच. के पते का चयन कर लिया। उसने संक्षिप्त पत्र लिखा और डाक में डाल दिया। वह बहुत हड़बड़ाया हुआ था। उत्तर आया । वह उसकी पत्र-मित्र बनने को तैयार हो गई।

पत्र व्यवहार के प्रति उनकी प्रतिक्रियाएँ-लेखक ऐलिस का पत्र पाकर बहुत प्रसन्न था। अब वे एक-दूसरे के लिए पत्र लिखने लगे। वह बहुत भावुक और शर्मिला था। उसके दिल में प्रेम की भावना . थी। ऐलिस लम्बे पत्र लिखती थी और उसके लिए पुस्तकें और पत्रिकाएँ भेजती थी। वह सोचता था कि
ऐलिस बहुत धनी और सुन्दर थी।

एक दिलचस्प मामला-एक दिन लेखक को एक बण्डल मिला। उसमें कुछ पत्रिकाएँ और एकnसंक्षिप्त नोट था। उसे ऐलिस की मित्र ने भेजा था । उसमें ऐलिस का फोटो भी था। ऐलिस मर चुकी थी। वह 78 वर्ष की थी। फोटो ने ऐलिस के बारे में सच्चाई प्रकट कर दी! यह एक दिलचस्प मामला था क्योंकि लेखक उसे युवा सुन्दर लड़की समझता था।
